Spring and summer hat trends for 2019
Want to know what trends are going to be big in 2019? We’ve had a look at the fashion runways and top brands to get an idea of what hats are likely to be all the rage in the spring and summer season. Design houses such as Dolce & Gabbana lead the way with their collection of hats that lead the way on our trends list.
Veiled hats
From pillboxes and wide-brimmed hats to fascinators and boaters, veils will be a popular addition to many styles of hat in the coming spring and summer season. The veil has moved on from being a sombre choice and preserve of funerals to a statement and dramatic choice for many types of hats. Expect to see pastel colours and flower embellishment as well as black and white contrasting trim.
Bucket hats
Love them or hate them, it looks like the bucket hat is here to stay in the year ahead. Brighter and bolder than the 90’s era fashion, bucket hats have made a strong resurgence over the past year and designers such as Dolce & Gabbana are leading the way with their brand new patterns.
Beekeepers
Continuing the trend for veils and taking it to the extreme is the beekeeper style. Featuring a sheer lace veil that swathes the head, the beekeeper hat creates a dramatic look that is sure to make a statement at any party or soiree with friends. Designers leading the trend include Simone Rocha and Erdem.
Wide brim hats
Another hat trend that will feature again in the year ahead is the wide brim hat which is easy to wear, flattering and extremely comfortable. Leading fashion houses showing off the style included Valentino, Maison Margiela, and Dolce & Gabbana. Hats have slimmed down and become more portable in favour of the previous oversized versions.
Pincushion hats
This is a style that has not been seen for at least a couple of decades and Moschino are leading the way with their startling new collection by Jeremy Scott. Expect to see plenty of pincushion hats in the shops of top brands featuring fresh and strong patterns that will inspire and excite.
Straw hats
From pincushion to boater and everything in between, straw was a popular hat material on the runways and continues to be a versatile choice for designers. With a wide range of look available and an open weave, straw is a lightweight and airy choice for a summer hat. There are plenty of straw hat styles on show including a deerstalker and of course the classic straw hat, albeit reimagined.
Pillboxes
Sparkling pillbox hats from Moschino made a strong appearance and look set to offer a subtle way to top an outfit and finish your look. With a thin headband, pillbox hats can be worn slightly tilted to create a slightly unique style.
